Whatever time of the year you arrive in Phuket, there is always something happening.
King's Cup Regatta
The Phuket King's Cup Regatta is Asia's biggest and most popular regatta. More than a regatta, the week long event consists of great parties, great sailing and lots of fun.
Inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand, the event has been held every year since during the first week of December.
The King's Cup Regatta, is one event which attracts visitors from the world over. This is an annual yacht race around Phang Na Bay, and seeing all the yachts together is quite a spectacular site.
SongKran Festival
Songkran is a Thai traditional New Year which starts on April 13 every year and lasts for 3 days. Songkran festival on April 13 is Maha Songkran Day, or the day to mark the end of the old year, April 14 is Wan Nao, which is the day after, and April 15 is Wan Thaloeng Sok, which is when the New Year begins.
At this time, people from the rural areas, who are working in the city, usually return home to celebrate the festival.
Another really great time to visit Phuket, and we highly recommend you come during this time of year.
Loi Katong
In Thailand, during the night of first full moon in November, is a time of festivity, in which everyone offers floating lanterns with flowers, to the river.
The festival, is called "Loi Katong." The float are decorated with beautiful flowers. At the centre of them, are the lit incense sticks and candles. These are then floated out on the rivers, or the sea. A really spectacular sight with all the candles.
